My Lenten Fast

I shall be fasting from my transit coffee.  And 1/2 themoney saved will go into the ShareLife Fund.  The other half haven't decided yet.

Any hoo, I came up with an idea about the lenten fast from a discussion on Facebook, where someone asked why Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, which lead me to explain that the nedieval lenten fast used to be a "FAST" or 1 meal and two snacks going for 40 days with the addition of further omitting meat on Fridays. With milk and eggs considered luxuries. So since there was generally less eating of everything, pancakes used up all the extra eggs and milk that would have gone bad

That got me thinking about the Lenten fast.  Now I don't think I could fast everyday in Lent on the first try.  So this year, as an attempt at penance, I will attempt a medueval fast on all Wednesdays and Fridays, with the added abstaining from meat on Fridays,

Sounds reasonable to me!

Apparently my grandmother used to make "Lenten cookies". They were like the size of a small plate (according to the people who consumed them) to get around the fasting laws at the time. Probably not in the true spirit of Lent but then I heard a lot about things people used to do "to get around the rules" back then. So in one way; Vatican II was addressing this but too bad the laity took the idea and ran with it uncontrolled.

Scripture to keep in mind

Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth: [17] Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, [18] A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief, [19]A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren. [20] My son, keep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother. ***Cf:Douay-Rheims Proverbs 6: 16-20
