Truism read on a shirt

More People Have Read This Shirt

I really hate it when the truth jumps out and hits me in the face like it did Bear when he saw a guy wearing this same T-shirt.

O well, it is still covetousness to desire to have more readers than Fr. Z

Please Pray for the Repose of the Soul

of my great aunt, Maria Laura.  She died on Saturday, 91 years old.  Visitation tomorrow and Funeral Wednesday 10 a.m.  Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

AS for the exact relationship to me
Her father was my great grandmother's brother.
That made her my grandmother's 1st cousin
My father's 1st cousin once removed
and my 1st cousin twice removed,
but we called her "aunt" out of respect for her age and generation.

The odd part is she was the only one in the family who was able to point out to my dad who his mother was in a photograph.  (My father lost his mother when he was two and didn't remember her.) When I gifted my father a portrait of his mother, he took it straight to his aunt and asked if the likeness was correct, and she said yes. I remember my dad crying and then spent hours just staring at the portrait.  It seems odd, but she was the main connection to my grandmother.

The very few who read this blog will understand this next line:  The eagle head is now known.

On Potty training

There is pre-training and the actual training.

Pre-training is the months before the actual potty training.  Get the child interested in the potty.  Sit him up on the potty when he wakes up in the morning or from his nap.  This is pre-training, this is actually training you.  Watch your child.  Mine has developed the habit of pulling down his diaper. So I will sit him up.  But so far it is hit and miss.

He really isn't ready, but I am pre-training.  Waiting for the right time.  When the signs all come together.  The main one being that he KNOWS he is voiding or evacuating and can vocalize it. That's the most important part: he needs to have words.  Frodo was a little delayed in his first word.  He picks up words more and more, but doesn't have complete sentences yet.  So one thing at a time.  First he gets the words, while he is pre-training, and then hopefully by Christmas or next summer full tilt potty training.

With both  my girls, I pre-trained for about a 1/2 year first ( testing their readiness)  and then when all the signs were right just took off the diaper and let them walk around in their dresses ( they were both trained in the summer) when they started leaking rush them to the potty stool. After the first day, they would run to the potty on their own.  By the forth day I put them in underwear, and by the seventh day they were keeping the underwear dry all day. They were already waking up in the morning dry, which meant their bladders were large enough to hold a good amount. Gal. was potty trained at about three and Arwen was two and a half.  Both were potty trained in the summer: summer makes walking around sans diaper easier and having less clothing one makes it easier to manoeuvre in and out of clothes.

God Loves You

An anecdote from years when Orphanages were more common, and typically run by the church.

A little 6 year old girl, at the orphanage, is feeling kind of down in the dumps. She's in the playground keeping to herself, away from the other children.  Sister Beatrice comes by and asks her:

Sr. B.:  Grace, what is wrong?

Grace: Oh Sr. Beatrice.  I just sad because no one loves me.

Sr. B: But Grace, remember God loves you very much.

Grace: Oh sister, I know God loves me, I just want someone with skin on.

Expaining My Self Pitying Post Below

First: thanks to my commenters, both of you, for your love.

Second: Allow me to point out that I know that there are those who love me.  Bear, Gal, Arwen, and Frodo ( Okay- about Frodo- not sure yet- but he gives me kisses on my cheeks, yay-- and then follows that up by blowing raspberries on my cheeks -Okay he's a work in process, when it comes to loving, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt right now.) My mom.

Thirdly: I should point out that I was being saracastic. That day all heck had broken loose and it felt like everything had landed on my shoulders and everything had to be fixed a week ago.  Someone   had dumped her worries and concerns on me - loudly, unjustly blaming me for everything,  and expected me to have everthing fixed by the proverbial yesterday. And to boot I had pink eye and my allergies were up.

I sat down to  to have a cup of coffee, the cat came by, I go to pet the darn cat and she jumps away. And I make my comment. Arwen does not suffer self-pity kindly.  Hence her comment.

Arwen was, in her inimittable  way saying that the people who don't love me just don't know me yet.

I should have mentioned that I laughed, no actually I cracked up.
It was up there with: One billion Chinese don't care.

No one loves me

Puff:  is having a really bad day, even the cat jumped away from me, off my lap, as I tried to pet her: That proves it: No one loves me

Arwen: That's not true, well,  except for the people who don't know you.

Canada Remembers the Dieppe Raid

Read news story here

For the Wiki version go here

For the "real" reason for the raid go here

Apparently, from what I can figure out from the History channel Special I am watching, is just a different way of telling me that 3000+ wounded and killed Canadians were sent in as a cover for the secret 30th Assault Unit, created by Ian Fleming, to steal intelligence to help break the German code.

Doesn't change anything.  Our boys were still sent in as shock troops.  The worst part of this is The Canadians weren't even told the true reason for the horrifically failed raid.

Spiritual Adoption of the Unborn

The pope has given his blessing to this endeavour

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of [baby’s name] the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.                          ~ Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

More information on what it entails can be garnered here.

Prime Minister Harper's Assumption Greeting

The Prime Minister of Canada
sends greetings for the
Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Mantilla nod Vox cantoris through Facebook

In other parts of the world today day is a Holy Day of Obligation
and therefore it is a holiday (as in no work)
And as suggested in that discussion maybe if we asked nicely, we could get it off here too.

Feast of the Assumption of Mary

O Blessed Virgin Mary,
united to the victorious Christ in heaven,
you are the image and first-flowering of the Church
as she is to be perfected in the world to come.
You shine forth as a sign of sure hope and solace
for the pilgrim People of God.

In your Assumption,
you manifest the fullness of redemption
and appear as the spotless image of the Church
responding in joy
to the invitation of the Bridegroom, your Son,
who is the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Grant that we may follow your example on earth
thereby imitating your Son as well
and being enabled to share your glory,
with Him for all eternity.

Two Novels

Arwen's : What Not to Wear

Puff: Galadriel please go to the store, we need some bread, milk, and if you go quickly you can even pickup some Nutella.

Should point out that Gal. is still not up, awake but still in bed.

Galadriel: Okay

.....a few minutes later Galadriel descends the stairs dressed in a jeggings and tank top.

Puff:  Um, you going out dressed like that.

Galadriel  Yeah, what about it.

Puff: Um okay, just go.

Arwen: You look like a hooker!

Galadriel: laughing.  Okay I'll go get another shirt on. walking up the stairs.
After a half minute.  Mom, all my clothes are in the wash.

The interesting part of her dilemma is this: Does she go out dressed in CLEAN jeggings and tank top, ot does she pull out more respectable but dirty clothes. Odd I voted

Puff:  Wear the jeggings. and tank top.  This is a university campus on a hot day: trust me you are more covered than any one else is.

Real Estate Agents Dumming Up Business

No that is not necessarily a typo, and Bear I was not referring to Dummer Township.

A real estate agent knocks on my mother's door

REA:  Hello, are you the lady of the house?

Puff: AH no, but the homeowner is 86 years old and doesn't speak English ( actually she speaks English fine, unless I'm around and then she doesn't, because I am around to translate for her.  If you understand I don't have to explain, and if you don't understand, no explanation will suffice) Anyway, since I was there the statement is in fact true and honest.  I'm her daughter and can speak for her.  HOw can I help you?

REA: Hello I have a client who wants to purchase a home in the area.  Are you or someone you know thinking of selling.

Puff: At the present moment, no she wants to keep her home as she is still using it.  When she stops using it, my sister and I will probably sell then.

REA:  Do you think you might be selling in the next few months? handing me her card

Puff: Giving the card back. Takes a step back into the hall, and closes the door.

Mom:  What did she want?

Puff: Wanted to know if you were thinking of selling?

Mom: What did you say?

Puff: I said that you were using the house at the present time, and when you stopped using it it might go up for sale. Then, she asked if we would be selling in the next few months.

Mom:   Starts to ask What did you say???  Light dawning she starts to laugh You are horrible.

All that and I am the horrible one?  Great, just great

Why is being pro-Canadian so unAmerican

No really, that's my only quandary?

Canadians, Americans, lend me your opinions.  I come not... Oops that is another oration, sort of.
Very often when I am on a rave about Canada, someone, somewhere in America, will tell me that I am putting down Americans.

Bear and I went out to the movies last night.  One of the previews was for "Argo," about the American CIA involvement in the Canadian Caper.  Bear and I turned to each other and said, great, just remove all the work the Canadians did in that, and make it 100 percent a CIA operation, which it wasn't.  There was no way it could be.

Why is saying that it wasn't a total CIA operation and that we would have preferred if everything that the Canadians did to secure the release of the six NOT be ignored in that movie, make me (us) unAmerican?

Canada Vs USA, when it really counts

Much more important in the grand scheme of things than a soccer game.

Arwen calls it like it is

In the car discussing fads

Bear:  S. was going on about the new Apple i-pad. When they were revealing it the guy says: "And the carrier becomes a keypad," and he's all psyched about it and thinks its great,  and I am thinking, "Way to go, they just re-invented the notebook."

Puff:  And everything is i-this and i-that, even the phones are i-phones.  Everything hooks up to the internet.  Even Galadrial's phone which does not have  all the bells and whistles can still search the net and email and text.  No cell phone is JUST a phone. I wonder what i even stands for, internet or intelligent?

Arwen cutting in: It stands for "I wanna..."

Yuup you got in one, Garabaldi

I am redoing my sidebar

several of the links on my sidebar are pretty much dead, or rarely undated.

I am interested in maybe visiting other blogs.  If you have any that you think are interesting let me know.

Also if you want to stay on my sidebar let me know.

I haven't been reading many of the blogs that are there.  It seems to be associated with the general ennui I have regarding EVERYTHING not just blogging.

So I thought if I just shook things up ( you know like the PM shuffles his cabinet) might I don't know make me feel better.

2, This one prolly better for Vox if he drops by

I need some decent funeral hymns (not needed NOW, but it takes longer than the three days one usually gets to prepare a funeral mass

I would like to start with Eterno Riposo ( in italian, except the version I found doesn't have the versicles from Ezra just the antiphon.  I guess it could be repeated as necessary

The Ordinary will be either Italian, Jubilate Deo, or the New ICEL Mass

Communion will be Humbly we adore thee  Or God Head in Here Hiding

The Post Communion would be "Mira il Tuo Popolo" A marian hymn

Song of Farewell: Saints of God (trying to find it in Italian)

And Reverse Processional : In Paradisum (prolly in Latin)

Offertory has be stumped:  I was thinking of  Dal Profondo, but that isn't exactly an Offertory Hymn

Any ideas for an offertory hymn or motet in Italian that can be sung by a cantor not a choir would be great

To IPAddress: 10.144.128.# - UPDATED

You are on my site almost every hour, according to SITEMETER  Honestly, this blog is not very interesting.  Drop a comment in the comment box already.  Showing up every hour or so and just hanging around feels a little creepy and is actually stalking behaviour.

TO my other readers: all oh 5 of you.  I may have to make this a private blog and only have invited readers.  If that occurs I apologize, for the added headache of reading my words.

Searching around the web.

I checked by blogger stats and there is nothing odd, infact blogger stats are pretty tame.  most hits are redirecting from google search engines, except for those who come in from other blogs.  (TO those readers I say thank you for having me on your sidebars.

I plugged that IP address into google and came up with zilch on the owner.  It isn't even listed as a googlebot.  Any hoo, there are other bloggers who have the same IP address showing up on their SITEMETER accounts. THe other thing is that SITEMETER is wonky, gives you your summary but no analyses are available.

I think this may be a problem with SITEMETER AGAIN.

I advise you to check your visitors summary from SITEMETER, if you have it and see if this same IP address shows up.  I checked Bear's and it shows up there.  IF it is SITEMETER wide then it's a SITEMETER problem and the beginning of this post is null and void.  If some has hacked SITEMETER, bad you.

I got nothing

I find I am slowly drawing away from writing about faith and church.  (Aside: It's odd, but Church and Faith should be the same subject, and yet those two topics are practically mutually exclusive.  Sad, but true)

Any hoo

I am all written out.  The Church is in trouble.  We all know that. People are leaving, it seems, in droves.  Some because they no longer feel safe within the arms of Mother Church.

Others fool themselves and still believe that they are in the church even though they have no inkling that that would require obedience to the tenets of the faith of this said church.

Some leave because the Church is much to strict
Yet others leave because the Church is much to lax

The Church is attacked, granted sometimes the accusations are completely justified.  Sometimes the accusations are blatantly false.  And yet most of the time the accusations lie somewhere between true and false.  I am tired of publically fighting those who would attack her.  There are a few who could better fight.  I have lost the spleen, not to mention the liver for this sort of thing.

So I will tell you about the new series of books I am reading.  It is a children's series called "39 Clues"  The books are short quick and I can usually finish one in less than a day, even with my limited reading time.  There is a website where you can continue searching for, you guessed it the 39 clues.  Apparently the premise is that their are 39 clues that will lead you to that treasure which will make the bearer the most powerful person in the world.
The clues I have read so far include: Iron Solute, tungsten, myrrh, aloe, ( well there are more but I'm not about to list them all.) I've read only 7 of the 11 books.  I hope to stop off at the bookstore today when I go to my mom's and purchase the next one or two vols. and maybe a card package for for use on the website.

I started an account for Arwen.  She plays online, but she finds the books boring.  Odd, come to think of it the books are rather lame, but hey I guess I like lame

I close with this

Scripture to keep in mind

Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth: [17] Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, [18] A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief, [19]A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren. [20] My son, keep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother. ***Cf:Douay-Rheims Proverbs 6: 16-20

I declare that I have no intent to acknowledge, distribute or encourage anything contrary to Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and the Apostolic See. I submit myself and all the contents of this blog to the judgment of the Church.
