My Husband's rant

Read it here

What can I say, sometimes I agree with him.

The CCCB did put out something, very lame in my opinion

"The Most Reverend Raymond Lahey, former Bishop of Antigonish, has pled guilty to possession of child pornography. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops condemns all forms of sexual exploitation, especially involving minors, and continues to work to prevent such behaviour and to bring healing to the victims and their families.

"Recognizing the confusion and anger that this case has engendered among many of the faithful, we underscore our pastoral concern for those who have experienced great pain as a result of these events. In a special way our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Diocese of Antigonish and all the Atlantic region.

"We reiterate the Catholic Church’s long-standing condemnation of the possession, distribution and use of child pornographic images in all forms, and renew our resolve to do everything we can to promote the dignity and respect of the human person.”

This Bishop needs more than to have his resignation accepted.  The CCCB has removed him from their list of Bishops.  Rome needs to demote and laicize him. Holy Father say something to your sheep.

Peter do you love me
Yes Lord,
Feed my sheep.

The Vatican has made a statement

Okay only thing missing is the day of his laicization

You are right. A roman catholic priest is forever a priest like Melchizidek, Holy orders confers upon him an indelible mark. But they can be dismissed from the clerical state. Hence he no longer wears the "frock" of a priest.

That means that they wouldn't be able to celebrate the sacraments, and he is dismissed from his obedience to his bishop. Two vows he is not dismissed from is chastity(unless) granted dispensation from the pope) and his duty to hear a dying man's confession and grant absolution.

You are right the laicization of a bishop is rare. The idea that Bishops are descended from the Apostles (not just 72 disciples, but the twelve)may have something to do with it.

To quote wikipedia
The laicization of bishops is very rare, although it has happened a few times, notably in the cases of Fernando Lugo in Paraguay and Emmanuel Milingo in Zambia.[5][6] In the case of Fernando Lugo, the Church at first refused to laicize him to allow him to run for President of Paraguay, even going so far as to suspend him as Bishop of San Pedro when he ran for office anyway, but eventually granted lay status once Lugo was elected."

I still believe that he is not worthy to celebrate the sacraments except in extreme circumstances, like there is no licit priest around. So rather than say he should be defrocked, he should be relieved of his clerical duties.

I agree. I also think he should have to break rocks in a quarry for the rest of his life. Maybe the hard labor would help keep away impure thoughts.

Scripture to keep in mind

Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth: [17] Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, [18] A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief, [19]A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren. [20] My son, keep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother. ***Cf:Douay-Rheims Proverbs 6: 16-20
